Ingrown Toe Nails

Ingrown toenails can be the result of infections, sometimes resulting in an overgrowth of red tissue. They could also be caused by recurring nail pressure where trimming one’s nail does not offer lasting pain relief.

In a procedure called Partial Nail Avulsion, where a nail is pressing against the skin of the toe, we recommend surgically removing the corner of the nail by removing a narrow strip of nail from the base of the nail to the tip. This procedure is done at our consulting rooms under local anaesthesia and will result in the width of the nail being permanently narrowed.

Yaseera Hajee’s Podiary practice places a strong emphasis on ensuring that the toenail surgery is as painless as possible, however, while the procedure itself is painless, as the aesthetic wears off, some post operative discomfort is to be expected although measures will be taken and strategies will be discussed to ensure that pain is minimised.

Recovery from this surgical procedure will take 2-3 weeks and it is suggested that the patient wear open toed shoes for 3-4 days following the procedure.
